the merino is moving

Driving along the east coast of Australia, one passes a great number of sights (and sites) of note. Driving north out of Melbourne, one passes through the dense eucalypt forest in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, before crossing the muddy waters of the great Murray River. The vast open spaces of Australia's outback are inspiring and the sandy beaches of Australia's rugged coastline breathtaking. But most striking of all, without doubt, are the country's giant flora and fauna. The following is a ranked list of the most impressive giant structures we passed on our journey north.

4. Giant Banana, Coffs Harbour; 5 metres.
(It was the banana's 40th birthday this year)

3. Giant Pineapple, Nambour; 16 metres.

2. Giant Prawn, Ballina; 20 metres.

1. Giant Merino, Goulburn; 15 x 18 metres.
(It was the Merino's 20th birthday, to the day, when we visited. It is the largest Merino in the world. Future visitors note, though: the Merino is moving from its present location to a new location closer to the highway).
