Actually, the latest report from the USDA (dated April, 2003) shows that New Zealand is no longer the top producer (nor exporter) of kiwifruit, as it was a decade ago. In 2003, Italy produced over 50% more kiwifruit than New Zealand. Zespri, the major New Zealand kiwifruit exporter, still arguably has the advantage in brand image and leads the market in premium (gold and organic) kiwifruit, but Italy is the largest overall supplier, since green kiwifruit make up the vast majority of the market.
Also, green kiwifruit skin makes up the bulk of the lining of Chris's stomach.

I recently bought and ate a gold kiwifruit. They're not very good. The green variety remains my choice of kiwifruit.
i am with tor.
did y'all know that South Carolina produces more peaches than Georgia?
"New Zeland" is not a country. It does not produce anything. New Zealand, on the other hand...
If any of you has a whim to airmail me a genuine NZ kiwifruit, do. Provided there are any left to buy, that is. --S.
